Family Cat Lost for 103 Days – Found! December 15, 2009

Our cat Daisy got out on September 3rd. The kids were crushed and after a 20 day search, hundreds of flyers and even a blog (lostcat.info) we gave up. Yesterday, 103 days later, a guy calls us and says he found our cat.
He was driving not far from our house and picked this frail white cat up while she was trying to get down a hole. She was skin and bones and very weak.
A week later he saw a tattered piece of paper taped to a street sign, flipped it over and it was one of our flyers. He called us up and we picked her up last night. Wow…

We have gone out a few times this week and walked all around. Looking for the reflections of little eyes, only to find rabbits. No Daisy.
We will still search. I am putting out a bowl of food tonight to see if there is any activity on our land. If so, I’ll put the camera on it and see who’s coming to visit.
Plan Worked…Wrong Cat September 16, 2009

Our plan to capture Daisy did not work. We caught a cat, so the actual mechanics of the plan worked, just the wrong cat. I set up a webcam with motion sensor software. Then there was movement the software would email my phone and wake me up. Here’s how it went down….
First I tested the camera with Elmo.
The non-daisy cat arrived at 1:25am. The phone did not wake me up for this one.
The phone woke me up at 4:14am. Same wrong cat.
This time I pushed the garage door opener that was beside my bed and trapped the little beastie.
After a little time to think about what she did, I opened the door and the intruder left.
I may do this again to see if daisy will come by to visit. We will see.

Tonight I set up a web camera with motion sensor. We will see if we can capture an image of the mystery kitty.

Set the trap last night. The food was eaten and the trap was closed. We found a long white hair.
Daisy Sighting… September 11, 2009

While walking around in the woods looking for Daisy I saw some “eyes” in the distance. Using the flashlight I could tell it was an animal. We got closer and it was Daisy. She was sitting on a neighbors trailer close to a barn, quite a nice set-up for a cat. We called her and had food but she dashed off.
We visited with the neighbor and she and her husband will keep an eye out. There are a lot of possums in the area so a cat trap would not be a good thing in her area. So we’ll set the trap in the garage again tonight…
Daisy is Afraid of Trap September 10, 2009

Looks like the cat trap strategy isn’t going to work. Last night she ate the trail of food up to the entrance to the cage. She did get into the bag of food next to the cage. Looks like we need a change of strategy.

Either Daisy did not come by last night or she was scared of the trap. I’ll put a trail of food down tonight to see if she comes into the garage.

My makeshift traps have not worked. Today I borrowed a “cat trap” from the Humane Society. The food is strategically placed, the trap is locked and loaded. Now I just need a hungry unsuspecting white cat.
